Skanska has a long history with BIM. The Statoil project, an office building, was the first time they used the technology. This project became a BIM pilot.

Upon completion, the specialists received good value for money and positive feedback from contractors and owners. BIM has improved project communication and quality control.

HOW DOES EVERYTHING WORK?

Firstly, there are mobile BIM stations. These are necessary for workers to better understand the project concept and are a workstation with access to an interdisciplinary model.

Meanwhile, the average construction worker needs a tablet to view electronic drawings in real-time, as well as complex views up close.

Finally, some of the work, such as reinforcing, is done without paper or electronic drawings, using only a specially prepared model. Imagine workers with iPads and mobile workstations on our sites? With BIM, it is going to happen soon!

BIM 360 Field and BIM 360 Glue are two tools used by Skanska. They are installed on tablets and allow the necessary information to be exchanged directly on the construction site.

BIM 360 Field allows contractors to perfectly monitor the quality of their work and to ensure that high safety standards are being met. «BIM 360 Glue» lets you study models on the tablet, find and correct errors in advance, and obtain valuable additional construction information.

Of course, all of this simplifies the workflow. No more printing and carrying reams of drawings, making notes, and then transferring and organizing them on the computer.

The technology allows you to get an up-to-date version of the BIM model with all current tasks by simply synchronizing your tablet with the server at the beginning of the day. All site photos, along with notes on location, time and comments, are automatically uploaded to the server. A worker can mark completed tasks on the tablet. This information is immediately available to the manager, who can track the progress of the project.
