The rise of a BIM model based on drawings
BIM modeling has been a trend in the construction industry for the last few years, and in 2022 it has become a necessity. Therefore, the client decided to switch to this type of design: the most interesting projects increasingly use this formulation.

THE PROBLEM OF SWITCHING TO BIM
Design in AutoCAD is two-dimensional:
the company did not have the resources for retraining specialists,
and designers were not ready to change the vector of work.
They had no idea how to do BIM modeling, no idea how to work with BIM, and no idea what to expect from BIM.
This resulted in «a lot of errors and inconsistencies in the documentation» as it was built.
THE MAIN GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO HELP THE CUSTOMER TO SUCCESSFULLY START BIM WORK AND TO BE COMPETITIVE WITH OTHER COMPANIES
We also needed to be able to develop accurate and detailed models in the shortest amount of time possible without having to hire new staff or retrain existing staff.
ERROR CORRECTION WITH THE DESIGNERS OF THE COMPANY
Special clash detection software was used by our team.
We also easily converted design documentation
from 2D to Revit 3D BIM models per client requirements.
In order to further combine and analyze the created sections from the drawings, we used a connection system in the section we took as a base.
This BIM modeling allows us to see the building with all utilities and structures. However, the uploaded connections can be viewed without the ability to edit them.
In some cases, it’s even possible to correct design errors with BIM automation.
For example, the creation of specifications associated with incorrect calculations, as occurred in this project. With BIM, this calculation is performed by software, not people.
In the architecture of the building, we loaded all the remaining sections with connections. This allowed us to see the whole project, but without making unnecessary changes to the existing files.
THE MOST TRANSPARENT WORK STRUCTURE WAS CREATED
We were able to communicate the specifics of our work to the client. It’s made our collaboration much easier.
In addition, the client has already asked us to provide BIM training for their specialists. Our cooperation is far from finished, and may be the subject of our next case study.
